Human Resource Generalist

Position Overview: The HR Generalist is responsible for providing broad HR support to employees and managers in the transportation industry. This role encompasses employee relations, benefits administration, workers’ compensation case management, and policy compliance. Acting as a key partner to internal teams, the HR Generalist will ensure HR policies and best practices are effectively applied while fostering a positive and compliant workplace environment. This position requires strong communication, problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple HR functions in a fast-paced setting.

 Responsibilities: 

  • Provide HR business support to employees and managers on various HR matters.
  • Partner with internal teams to support performance management, employee relations, compensation, and recruitment.
  • Oversee workers’ compensation case management, including responding to employee inquiries, coordinating modified work, creating reports, and liaising with government agencies.
  • Advise managers on progressive discipline and employee relations matters.
  • Conduct workplace investigations and recommend appropriate resolutions.
  • Administer company health benefits and RRSP programs.
  • Support the Recruitment Team throughout the hiring and onboarding process.
  • Manage employee leaves of absence, ensuring compliance with regional regulations.
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date, and complete employee records.
  • Liaise with government agencies on employment-related matters.
  • Coordinate and conduct employee terminations.
  • Assist in planning and supporting employee events, with occasional travel required.
  • Perform other HR-related duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • Professional experience in an HR Generalist role with a demonstrated ability to manage employee relations, benefits administration, and policy compliance.
  • Proven ability to handle workers' compensation case management, including liaising with government agencies and coordinating modified work.
  • Experience administering benefits and RRSP plans is an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel (V-lookups), MS Teams, Outlook, and SharePoint.
  • Familiarity with compensation and employee relations best practices.
  • Understanding of the Canada Labour Code is an asset.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with employees at all levels, from frontline employees and drivers to senior leadership.
