Position Overview: The Operations Supervisor plays a key onsite leadership role in supporting Seaboard’s operational presence at Teck mine locations. Acting as the face of Seaboard at Coal Valley and Highland Valley Copper (HVC), this position provides daily direction and support to drivers, ensures operational discipline, and fosters a strong safety and service culture. The role is accountable to Seaboard’s management team and is central to maintaining productivity, compliance, and effective customer relationships at the mine sites.
Responsibilities:
- Represent Seaboard onsite at Teck operations, accountable to the Seaboard management team.
- Provide daily leadership and direction to drivers onsite, ensuring safe and efficient operations.
- Manage onsite challenges related to driver operations, asset readiness, and inventory management.
- Monitor and ensure proper operation and maintenance of company assets by drivers and technicians.
- Support asset management and maintenance programs with both local and remote service teams.
- Establish and maintain operating discipline around Seaboard and Teck processes (e.g., daily Proof of Delivery submissions).
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (PLAYBOOK).
- Promote a culture of safety, service excellence, and operational performance.
- Oversee day-to-day resource needs including driver availability and equipment readiness.
- Achieve daily targets for asset utilization and productivity.
- Ensure consistent and effective communication with mine supervisors and customers; escalate concerns as necessary.
- Build and maintain strong face-to-face relationships with mine site supervisors.
- Actively engage in discussions around operational wins, challenges, and opportunities for improvement.
- Resolve customer concerns in a professional and solutions-focused manner.
- Foster a respectful, driver-centric culture that aligns with Seaboard’s operational goals.
- Support a high-retention work environment that attracts top driving talent.
- Ensure full compliance with company and regulatory processes (e.g., retorque, preventive maintenance, Hours of Service, speed compliance).
- Partner with HSE Coordinators and management in responding to safety and environmental incidents.
- Encourage a culture of cost-awareness and ownership.
- Participate in driver recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts.
- Oversee training initiatives on and around mine sites.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate mechanical service support when required.
- Assist with driver development, performance management, and, when necessary, disciplinary processes.
- Act as a first line of response to customer complaints or service disruptions.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid Class 1 Driver’s License with a clean driver’s abstract.
- 3–5 years of relevant transportation, logistics, or mine site operations experience.
- Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety and compliance.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, evaluate, and support drivers.
- Self-motivated and effective in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, and respond to shifting operational needs.
- Proven ability to communicate effectively with internal teams and external customers.
