Position Overview: The General Manager is responsible for managing the day-to-day profitable operations of the assigned Petroleum Division while ensuring safety, service, and human resource performance expectations are met and continuously improved. This role requires strong leadership, operational expertise, and financial acumen to drive business success while fostering a culture of safety and service excellence.

Responsibilities: 

Operational Management:

  • Oversee daily operations to ensure safety, service, and profitability targets are met.
  • Champion and enforce Petroleum Safe-Service Excellence Playbook policies and processes.
  • Monitor and achieve key performance indicators, including RPM, RPU, wage margins, and maintenance CPMs.
  • Provide daily direction and decision-making to ensure efficient division operations.
  • Ensure processes optimize asset productivity, on-time service performance, and cost control.
  • Oversee equipment planning and repair needs while managing maintenance and repair spending.
  • Lead weekly Operations Leadership meetings, providing up-to-date forecasts for business, KPI performance review, and HSE performance and initiatives.
  • Participate in and contribute to the Sales & Operations planning process with the VP, identifying demand requirements to planned capacity growth.

Financial Management:

  • Maintain full P&L responsibility for the Quebec Petroleum Division operations.
  • Produce monthly P&L forecasts and adjust operating strategies to achieve financial targets.
  • Lead monthly and quarterly divisional income statement reviews and corrective action processes with VPs and COO.
  • Develop divisional financial budgets and annual operating plans.
  • Manage costs and create a culture of ownership around financial performance.
  • Ensure timely and accurate settlement and billing through real-time work actualization and variance reconciliation.

 

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Provide support, direction, and performance leadership to direct reports, including Regional Operations Manager(s), CSRs, and Fleet Coordinator.
  • Utilize corporate resources to drive divisional business performance improvements.
  • Lead weekly Operations Leadership meetings to review business forecasts, KPI performance, and HSE initiatives.
  • Foster a positive work culture that attracts and retains top talent.
  • Work collaboratively with corporate HR to implement driver and staff programs.
  • Continually lead, innovate, and manage driver retention programs.
  • Lead weekly recruitment meetings, driving the organic growth targets of the business and ensuring sales/demand generation aligns with resourcing growth plans.

 

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Ensure clear, concise, and timely communication with customers, suppliers, and employees.
  • Establish and maintain processes to ensure consistent and proactive communication with all stakeholders.
  • Act as the first line of response to customer complaints and concerns.
  • Maintain professionalism and responsiveness while upholding company safety and ethics.
  • Work closely with Fleet Management to ensure timely and cost-effective maintenance and repair strategies.
  • Participate in Sales & Operations planning processes to align demand requirements with capacity growth.
  • Authorize expenditures within granted authority limits, including driver pay, maintenance, and vehicle washes.

 

Health, Safety, & Compliance:

  • Lead the development of annual divisional HSE plans in collaboration with corporate HSE management.
  • Drive root cause investigations for safety, environmental, or service incidents.
  • Lead the development of management disciplines for superior performance in safe driver performance, commodity management, equipment specifications, loss control management, security, and emergency response.

 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • University Degree, College Diploma, or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of experience in the transportation industry, specifically within a managerial role.
  • Bilingual in French & English Required
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written in French and English required.
  • Excellent multi-tasking and time management skills.
  • Energetic, adaptable, and flexible, with the ability to quickly acquire new skills and industry knowledge.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple conflicting priorities.
